We are entering year 11 in this battle. First and most importantly, we are so grateful for the love and support we have received from family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, ALS Chapter, and our home Hospice team to name a few.  Your unending support is appreciated beyond words.

As we struggle to understand “why us” we need to look at the positives.

Since Jim's diagnosis he has celebrated 10 birthdays and 10 wedding anniversaries - 48 years! We’ve welcomed 5 grandchildren and spent a full decade of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and other holidays together as a growing family. 11 years ago we didn’t think this was possible. Jim continues to defy the odds.

Our children have shown unwavering love. Brett & Sarah and Lauren & Justin, no matter how busy their lives are, would drop everything without question and we are grateful that they live so close. We are so proud of them and we know they are always there when we need them. Scott flew back in October for a visit which was not easy. He overcame his fear of flying and got on an airplane for the first time since Lauren got married in 2009. It was a wonderful visit for everyone.

Our grandchildren bring us happiness and sunshine when they come to visit. Jack (6 ½), AJ (5 right before this year’s Walk), and Mason (21 months) are very active. Jack and AJ are sports fanatics and are huge fans of the Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes and the Upper Arlington Girls Soccer team. They’re currently obsessed with baseball cards and playing whiffle ball. Mason is strong and curious, she loves to dance and tries to be just like her big siblings. Jonas (8) and Eve (4) play soccer and have been taking swim lessons.  They both love books, building things, have very active imaginations to name a few pastimes.  They are also coming up with names for their new brother or sister who is due to arrive 12/31!

This year's annual ALS Walk is Sunday, September 10, at Coffman Park in Dublin. We have been honored in the past with so many people who come to support our family and hope to see you again this year.

 Very sincerely,

The Fortier Family

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

That’s why we’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. To help unlock the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments a cure. Will you join us?

ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
