Welcome to My Personal Page
It is once again time again for the annual Columbus Walk to Defeat ALS. Please join me in fighting this horrible disease, which claimed the life of my late father, Robert Stach. We will be walking in his memory and in memory of Georgette Jacques, the wife of my friend, Jeff Jacques, and others who are living with, and bravely fighting against, this disease. Both my father and Georgette died at the far too young age of 62 as a result of complications from ALS. Please consider donating or joining my Walk team.
The walk will be a live event and will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
As the Chairman of the Board of our Chapter, I can tell you that the walks are our primary source of revenue. Our top line was adversely affected by walk cancellations in 2020 and 2021. While we were able to walk in person last year, we continue to lag pre-pandemic fundraising levels.
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. This crippling disease can strike anyone.
There is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime, it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need.
Thanks to all for their past support and please stay safe and healthy. Love you guys. Mark
