Welcome to My Personal Page
Hello and thank you for reading more about the Walk to Defeat ALS. My Mom, Sandra Combs, was diagnosed with ALS in 2018. At the time, I had heard of ALS, and had even participated in the ice bucket challenge to raise money for research, but I had no idea of the devastating affects of this horrible disease.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
Mom's ALS was bulbar onset so she quickly lost the ability to speak. I wish I had more recordings of her voice. She lived with the disease for 4 years, before passing away in February of 2022. Watching the affects of ALS weaken her body and eventually take my Mom's life was the most difficult thing I've ever endured. I miss her so much.
I am walking to raise awareness and to raise money for treatments and hopefully a cure. Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
