As Team Philip's "team leader", spouse, and primary caregiver, I would like to invite you to support Team Philip in the Walk ALS fundraising event! Walk ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.

As many of you may know, Philip Armstrong was diagnosed with ALS in February 2024. It has been an incredibly challenging time for him and our family. Yet, during the last 18 months, we have also been inspired by the many individuals and organizations who are working together to support members of the ALS community. We cannot thank ALS United Ohio enough for their consistent support and advocacy. We welcome the opportunity to participate in their fundraising initiative and invite you to do so as well.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

 

We are walking to bring help to those living with the disease, and to ensure that no one ever hears the words: "You have ALS" again. The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
